:: POLO IN BRAZIL ::
Polo arrived to Brazil in decade of 30, brought by enthusiastic business men of the sport in Europe. With the revolution of 32 there was a fall in the number of participants and it only came back to be well developed after years 40, reaching the summit in decade of 70, with the facility conceded by the Brazilian government who facilitated the import of adequate horses and stimulated the exchange with creators and Argentine players, by today the kings of the sport in Latin America.
Nowadays the Polo has approximately 500 participants in Brazil, being 50% of them in São Paulo State. The others are in Rio Grande do Sul, in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Brasilia. In São Paulo, Helvetia's Region, in Indaiatuba's Municipal district, 100 kilometers from the capital, is the biggest field concentration center of Polo in Brazil. In the whole, the municipal district has 22 official fields, distributed in private farms and clubs that organize tournaments very disputed during the whole year.
The second largest center is in Orlandia, near from Ribeirão Preto, where the sport was carried by the family Junqueiro. The season starts in March and finishes in November, with games every Saturdays and Sundays. In the year 2000 the tournaments organizers of Polo want to attract new players and to enlarge the influential area of the sport, carrying it to other Brazilian states. It is the great opportunity to who wants to know and to practice this sport that is considered virile, elegant and marked by the pure emotion.
